How to Make a Fading Door in GMod

Fading doors are props which temporarily become passible and translucent when opened. The fading door tool is one of the most useful tools in your box. You can use it to restrict access to areas for other players.

The fading door tool is great for making shooting windows. Use it with the button tool to open and close them for shooting at raiders.

You can also use the fading doors tool with the keypad tool to put a keypad on your fading door.

First, spawn the prop you are going to use as the fading door. Place the prop where you want the door to be.

Open the spawn menu, go to your tools, and select the "Fading Door" toolgun. Assign a keybind to your fading door on the "Open Key" or the "Access Granted" key.

Once you have assigned a keybind, shoot the prop you placed with your "Fading Door" toolgun. If done correctly, you should now be able to open your fading door. You can open your door by pressing the button you assigned to the Open Key.

Now that you have your fading door set up, you can use both buttons and keypads to open it.

How to Use Buttons in GMod

To use buttons, go to the "Button" toolgun in the Q menu. Assign a key in the "Key to Simulate" option. In some scenarios, you don't want to hold your button to keep your fading door open. If you don't want to hold your door open with a button, check the "Toggle Mode" tick.

Once you have your key selected, you can place your button anywhere by your fading door. To press a button in GMod, press or hold E to open your fading door.

How to Use Keypads in GMod

To use keypads in GMod, navigate to the "Keypads" toolgun and assign a key to your Keypad. Depending on the keypad addon you are using, you might have a few options to secure your keypad. Usually, you can set a passcode, have a face scan option, or configure a "pay to enter" option. Change these settings to your liking.

Once you have assigned a key to your keypad, go in game and place your keypad by clicking left click. If done correctly, your keypad should open your fading door when used.
