How to Fix a Broken TV in GMod - How to Use Media Player

This post is a guide on how to use the GMod TV Mod that can be found on Steam. Generally, any addon that uses the Chromium Embedded Framework will benefit from following the steps in this guide. That includes GMod radios, car radios, and other media player addons that you can find on the Steam Workshop.

What is the GMod Media Player?

GMod Media Player is a mod that allows for you to watch videos on a TV in Garry's Mod. By downloading this addon, you can watch Youtube videos while inside of a game of GMod. In order to get the addon to work, you must enable a special beta branch of Garry's Mod to play videos.

How to Use GMod Media Player

To use the media player in GMod go to the spawn menu, go to the entities tab, and find "Media Player". Once you have found that tab, pick which TV you want to spawn in. Once your TV is spawned in, press E on the TV to begin watching content.

To change the content on the TV, open your context menu (hold C) and click the "Add Media" button. You will then be directed to Youtube, where you can search for and find videos that you would like to play. If you wish, you can also directly copy and paste links from Youtube if you already have the link to the video.

GMod Media Player Youtube Not Working

Do you have a broken TV? When you press E to open Youtube, are you unable to view the screen? If your GMod Media Player is not working, follow these steps to enable chromium in GMod.

First, you're going to want to launch Steam. Right click on Garry's Mod in your Steam games and click "Properties"

Next, you're going to navigate to the "Betas" tab in the properties menu.

Lastly, you're going to opt into the Chromium beta by clicking the drop down menu and selecting "x86-64 - Chromium - 64-bit binaries"

Then all you need to do is reconnect and use your media player. If done correctly, your TV should be able to play and load videos!

Why do I need to be on GMod Chromium?

Chromium branch is a special branch of Garry's Mod. It patches the issues with Chromium Embedded Framework that were created in an old version of Garry's Mod. In simple terms, using this special branch of GMod fixes a lot of the problems that were created from old updates.
